The Elliot Sithole journal
Give your favourite graphic a longer life
A considered approach to washing, drying and storing the tees you reach for most.

A favourite T-shirt earns its place through repeat wear. A little attention between outings can help you care for the fabric and the graphic. Always start with the care label on your individual garment: its instructions take priority over general advice.
Before the wash
Separate clothing as directed by the labels, check pockets and avoid crowding the machine. Turning a printed tee inside out can reduce direct rubbing against the artwork. Choose the wash temperature and cycle specified for the garment.
Be gentle with the graphic
Avoid scrubbing the printed area or applying strong cleaning products directly to it unless the garment instructions allow this. Treat a mark carefully and test any suitable product in a discreet area first.
Let the label guide drying
Follow the recommended drying method. If air drying is suitable, reshape the garment gently and allow enough space for air to circulate. Do not assume that every printed tee can be tumble dried.
Store with a little care
Make sure the tee is dry before putting it away. Fold it neatly or use a suitable hanger without stretching the neckline. If ironing is permitted, avoid direct contact with the print and follow the temperature guidance on the label.
